Klitschko v Peter Preview

On September 11th in West Germany, Wladimir Klitschko the defending heavyweight champion will be taking on Sam Peter in a boxing betting fans dream matchup. As many die hard boxing betting online fans know, Peter and Klitschko met five years ago, in a rather exciting affair. The question is, can Peter make this match as exciting?

We suggest it is Peter who will be bringing the excitement to the match, as Wladimir and his bear hug style have become rather dull in recent memory. In the first fight, Peter was able to put the bigger Klitschko down three times. This proved irrelevant however as Klitschko eventually won the fight nine rounds to three in the 12 round affairs.

Five years later, both fighters have a lot left to prove to their critics. In the first encounter, Klitschko proved he could stand toe to toe with the faster Peter. Peter is known as a power fighter and will be looking to get away from Wladimir due to his new lazy style.

Klitschko since the first Peter fight has been the man under the microscope as he holds three heavyweight titles. In recent memory, most of his opponents have been credited as slugs, and the rematch with Peter will be the first real test Klitschko has had in the five years.

Conversely, Peter has really built up his record, from a young reckless fighter to one of the more premier power fighters in the business. First off, after losing to Klitschko, Peter came back by defeating James “Too Tough” Toney twice with the second coming by way of knockout. He then won several fights on points, before going back to the knockout route for his last five opponents.

If this fight comes down to knocking your opponent out, we have to go with the hometown boy Klitschko as he has over 50 knockouts to Peter’s 24.

Sugar Mosley vs. Sergio Mora Performance Preview

Live on September 18th from the Staples Center in Los Angeles Sugar Shane Mosley will be fighting Sergio Mora. As many boxing betting fans know, this will be Mosley’s first boxing match since his debacle of a fight against Floyd Mayweather. Mora on the other hand will appear as the odds on favorite in sports betting circles, because September 18th is the Mexican Bicentennial and he will be backed heavily.

Mora is an up and coming boxer with an impressive record of 22 – six and one. On the other hand Sugar Shane although also having an impressive record of 46 and nine, is seen more as a washed up fighter than as a serious threat. Many fans have a lack of interest in the fight, given that Mosley suffered the worst beating of his career his last time out and fans are unfamiliar with Mora.

To the knowledgeable boxing fan, this fight appears to be more of a stepping stone fight for the Mexican sensation Mora. However, if you are betting on Mosley, it may be a safe wager, because although he appears washed up, he still has quite the impressive record. Essentially, Mosley has both more to gain and lose no matter the result of the Mora fight.

On the one hand if he wins the fight, he might be able to restore some credibility to his reputation, which at this point could be all he’s looking for. Yet on the flip side, if Mosley loses, it does neither fighter any good. Basically if Mosley loses, it tells the boxing world that he should retire and that Mora can only fight washed up slugs.

The fight is on September 18 at the Staples Center. This fight comes one week after the Klitschko and Peter fight, and many analysts wonder if anyone will watch it.

The Octagon This Generation’s Boxing Ring

A lot changes over the generations when it comes to the online sports betting forums in which players spend most of their time, and one such transition has been from boxing to Mixed Martial Arts over the past decade. Once considered one of the premier sports because of its colorful characters, improbable upsets, and the aura that surrounded it through the mid 1900’s, boxing has lost its shine, taken over by the fastest rising sport in the world, MMA.

There are many reasons for the transition, as well as many differences between the boxing and MMA betting worlds, but none is bigger than the forum in which the sport is carried out. Unlike boxing, where a ring is used for the fighters to face off, MMA requires a cage or what the Ultimate Fighting Championship has trademarked as the “Octagon”. While the boxing ring is a simply square shape with ropes on all four sides that connect on a turnbuckle in the four corners, the octagon is an eight-sided cage that combatants can’t escape from. The walls are made of metal chain-link that is coated with black vinyl for the protection of the fighters, and it sits four feet above the ground on a raised platform. The top of the fence is protected with padding, and stands at the height of many fighters. Unlike in boxing where fighters against the ropes are called back to the middle of the ring, the octagon is usually used in MMA as a way for fighters to get an advantage.

Boxing Gloves vs. MMA Gloves

One question many fans new to UFC betting are concerned with is, how are MMA gloves different from boxing gloves?

For many fight sport fans coming from boxing, MMA gloves are a big change. In boxing, fighters wear 12 oz. gloves designed to protect their hands, as well as prevent cuts. In mixed martial arts, fighters wear 5 oz. gloves, which offer similar protection to hands, but do not do much to prevent competitors from being cut in the fight.

There are many myths relating to glove size, which we will attempt to dispel here. First, many fans of sports betting believe that mma gloves hit harder than boxing gloves. This is false. Scientific tests have repeatedly shown that glove size does not impact on power from a punch. 2000lbs of force from a puncher wearing a boxing glove is 2000lbs of force from a puncher wearing mma gloves.

So why do we see so many differences with regard to striking in mma and boxing?

Well first of all, punching with mma gloves is much more likely to result in cuts. This is one of the reasons mixed martial arts is perceived as a bloodier sport than boxing. Add in elbow strikes, which can be thrown to result in cuts, and mixed martial arts is clearly a bloodier sport than boxing.

Another difference lies in the protection count. In mixed martial arts, as soon as a fighter is deemed incapable of intelligently defending themselves, the bout is halted. This is unlike boxing where fighters can take such blows and be allowed to continue.

Finally, technique is another reason for the differences between the two sports. In mixed martial arts, many fighters throw wild, looping punches. These punches, while lacking technique, can be devastating when they land.
