Berto And Zaveck Itching To Go Ahead Of Saturday Night Clash

On Saturday September 2, 2011 former fishing games WBC Welterweight Champion Andre Berto will put his 27 and one record on the line, as he attempts to win the IBF Welterweight Championship, from Jan Zaveck in Berto’s first fight since losing a tough decision in April to current WBC Welterweight Champion Victor Ortiz. The fight will be broadcast on HBO and should have the potential to be a fight of the year candidate.

Sports betting boxing enthusiasts have been chomping at the bit to see Andre Berto back in the ring after the aforementioned loss to Ortiz. Berto, a knockout specialist with 20 of his 27 wins coming by KO is looking to show his fans and critics alike, that he still has plenty left in the tank. Comparable to MMA, fighter’s records in boxing are put into question after every loss, since the belief amongst many, is that the loss came to tough competition, which the wins came against weaker opponents.

On the contrary, for most North American fight fans, Jan Zaveck may fall into the latter category of a weaker opponent despite being the IBF Welterweight Champion. This Saturday, will both be the first time Zaveck fights in North America, and also the first time he’s featured in the main event on HBO. Meaning to say, do not be surprised if nerves get the best of him early on in the fight.

Nevertheless, Zaveck is the IBF Welterweight Champion for a reason, and this contest with Berto, has the potential to setup Zaveck for bigger fights down the road. For example, one could make the case, that if Zaveck is able to pull the upset and defeat Berto, he may be able to take on the winner of Mayweather vs. Ortiz in three weeks time.
